The
Pan Atlantic Team Media Interest
BBC Points West:
Andrew Douglas at BBC Points West has approached the
Pan Atlantic Team regarding doing a Mini Series featuring the build
up to the race, and then an extended programme featuring the race itself,
with a view to beaming images back from the boat as Niall and James row.
ITV:
The Pan Atlantic Team appearred in a television
interview on ITV (kit sponsors) in early February 2007, generating some
early media interest. They also contacted several local newspapers so
the Pan Atlantic Team appearance on television coincided with local paper
coverage.
Men's Fitness Magazine:
An agent of Men's Fitness Magazine has invited the
Pan Atlantic Team to feature in their publication. They are also looking
to feature the Pan Atlantic Team in other fitness and health advertisements
in the run-up to the race. We are in communications with Men's Health
magazine and hope to appear in there shortly before we depart for La Gomera.
Bristol Zoo:
The Pan Atlantic Team friends at Bristol Zoo are
lobbying Animal Planet to produce a feature-length documentary about the
teams challenge as a timely follow-up to a programme due to be aired on
Animal Planet about the gorillas and chimpanzees in Mefou National Park,
where the Zoo and CWAF do their work. They are also approaching Discovery
Channel, who have offices on site at the Zoo, the BBC and Channel 5 on
our behalf. The Zoo will also be featuring the Pan Atlantic Team in their
own publications over the next year, which are sent to each of their 11,000
members.
Newspapers:
The Pan Atlantic Team will be featured in local
publications including the Western Daily Press, Evening Post and The Observer
throughout the next year, and will also be approaching national newspapers.
One crew, who have just left La Gomera, have recently been featured in
the Daily Telegraph; and another crew, due to leave in January, is being
followed by The Sun.
Bristol University:
Bristol University has kindly given the Pan Atlantic
Team honorary membership of their gym. They are erecting an 8ft x
8ft information board about the Pan Atlantic Team challenge in the gym,
which has over 10,000 members, and have asked us to appear at several
events through the year. The University Press Office is doing a press
release as they have many links in to the local and national press.
Local Sports Clubs:
The Pan Atlantic Team have confirmed with the
Vice Chairman of Bristol City Football Club that the club and the company
who own the stadium would like to work with them. Niall and James will
be meeting with the Director of Ashton Gate early in the New Year to see
how much they will be doing with them. They have mentioned appearing on
the pitch on game days and providing celebrity endorsement of our challenge.
The Pan Atlantic Team also have a very strong link with Bath Rugby club
who have also confirmed that they will be working with Niall and James.
Charity Auction:
The Pan Atlantic Team will be holding a charity
auction, organized by Victor Ubogu in conjunction with Bath Rugby Club,
and are hoping that either James Cracknell or Steve Redgrave will host
the event.
Public Appearances
The Mall Galleries:
The Pan Atlantic Team appearred with their boat
in Bristol's largest shopping centre in Easter 2007. It is one of
the busiest times of the year for shoppers and has generated a lot of
local interest in the Pan Atlantic Team project.
Bristol Zoo:
The Pan Atlantic Team boat is to be kept on semi-permanent
display at the Zoo, which receives over 500,000 visitors each year. The
boat was unveiled at Bristol Zoo in mid-February, and there were two official
launches in April: one was a public launch and the other was a corporate
launch, held on an evening with all the Zoo's corporate partners,
local businesses and local media.
The Zoo have agreed to host several fund-raising events over the next
year including the Pan Atlantic Team attempt on the million-meter world
record, currently planned for September, which will drum up an enormous
amount of media interest and will be ratified by Guinness World Records.

RAF Lyneham have asked the Pan Atlantic Team to
appear at the base over the summer for a day in return for Sea Survival
training and providing James and Niall with army rations.
Local Festivals:
The Pan Atlantic Team have arranged to appear
at the Harbour Festival in late July. Niall and James are in communications
with the organizers of the Bristol Balloon Festival and the Ashton Court
Festival to appear at these festivals during the summer. All of the above
events attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Henley Royal Regatta:
The Pan Atlantic Team will be rowing down to Henley
for the Henley Royal Regatta in early July. James and Niall will keep
the boat moored there for the weekend and will do 'row bys'
of the crowds between races.
