Marine Equipment - MACTRAC
Unique GPS / GSM Tracking System
The Mactrac Coastal Yacht tracking system has been
developed for the charter yacht market. There are tracker
units already in the market place, but none that will benefit
the charter fleet owner the the way the Mactrac does.
The Mactrac gives its position immediately it is called.
The unit can also be set to give positions at a pre-set time
intervals. The Mactrac uses a unique method of communicating
its position anywhere in the world. There are no 'roaming
charges' which means the cost per position is the same in
Greece as it is in Australia. This is around 6p a fix.
The low running costs of the Mactrac in comparison with other
tracker units will pay for the unit over a short period of
time. Insurers should recognise that there is a reduced risk
to a vessel fitted with a Mactrac and adjust their premiums.
A charter company that is being proactive in looking after
its business and property should be rewarded with lower insurance
charges.
How does it work?
The covert installation is very simply wired into the yachts
electrical system. It draws very little power. As soon as
it is turned on, it works out its position and starts sending
it. This is viewed on the client's internet browser accessed
using a unique user name and password.
What does it cost?
The unit can be purchased outright or can be rented. There
is a monthly administration charge and a cost of around 6p
per 'fix'. Fleet order deals are available on application.
Why should you fit the Mactrac Coastal?
Below is a genuine case. The company in question have now
fitted our units on their
Charter fleet and now devote time to making their yachts earn,
without the worry of lost charters and legal wrangles that
make money for no one except the lawyers.
A charter fleet owner operating in the Eastern Mediterranean
had one of its vessels impounded by the authorities for being
used for criminal acts by charter clients. Not only was the
charter company unaware that the yacht was involved in illegal
activity, it shouldnt have even been in the vicinity
where the crime took place. But they didnt know where
it was, just out on charter!
During the protracted criminal investigation which lasted
over 3 years, the company lost valuable charter revenue and
for a while was not sure that it would ever get its yacht
back."

The Future?
Another useful feature currently being developed, is
using Mactrac's 2 digital and 3 analogue ports to link
to equipment onboard to flag up situations as they happen.
Engine overheating? Bilge pump running? Fire alarm
activated? The unit will be programmed to send a text
message as it happens.
