Jim MacDonald GradMIIMS,DipMarSur(YS)
has over 20 years experience in the marine world, having owned
and maintained several GRP yachts. Most of these were bought
in a poor state of repair and in need of renovation.
Sailing with his wife Ann, they have extensively
sailed in the UK, Europe and the Mediterranean. In 2003 they
took their two young daughters across the pond
and back, completing and Atlantic circuit of 11500 miles onboard
Helice their Westerly 33 ketch.

Jim has prepared his own yachts for both Skippered and Bareboat
charter complying with the Code of Practice. In the course
of this work he has extensive knowledge of repairs to:
GRP
& Ferro cement yachts
Standing
Stainless steel and galvanised rigging
Sails
& canvas
Deck
Fittings and hardware including winches, windlasses and self
steering
gears
Yacht
plumbing including holding tanks (Grey & black water)
Mactra Marine holds exclusive UK Dealerships for watermakers
and other specialised Blue Water sailing equipment. Jim is
often called upon to do seminars for World Cruising Club participants
in the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) specialising in watermakers.
Jim gives regular familiarisation courses for owners of Schenker
Watermakers at the Mactra premises in Weston super Mare. Every
year Jim & Ann fly out and give technical support in Las
Palmas at the start of the ARC. 
Jim is a qualified member of the International Institute
of Marine Surveyors and you can rest assured that your survey
will be carried out to the highest standard, is fully insured
and will be conducted using up to date methods and testing
equipment.
